i did. as an allergy suffer earlier, after a big rain, you get out there and you can take a breath. tucker, you know our suffering. >> i'm in good shape today. a cold front continues to press through the area. we are not expecting it to budge a whole lot today which means that we'll be stuck in the clouds and the possibility of shower activity here for much of your day today as that front is going to be here. annapolis, some light showers. this is pressing across the bay. i think much of your morning commute should be dry although the roadways are already wet. we'll be dealing with the potential for more showers a little later this afternoon. 67 in washington. humidity, 87%. your winds are out of the south and nine miles per hour. i guess we won't take a look at that map.

your pressure is falling. forecast for today, lots of clouds around with some showers back by afternoon. more details on the forecast in just a minute. back to you. >> thank you. new details on the underwear bomb plot topping our stories. it turns out the bomber is a double agent recruited by saudi intelligence and sent to yemen to infiltrate al-qaeda. some congress want an investigation into how the bomb plot was leaked. republican presidential candidate mitt romney swept all three states as expected. picked up about 100 delegates from voters in north carolina, indiana and west virginia. voters in north carolina approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as a union only between a man and woman. unofficial returns show that the amendment passed with about 61% supporting the measure. the amendment also eliminates other domestic unions from

carrying legal status. a brave act caught on camera. metro riders jumping into action after spotting a man grab another passenger's iphone. >> surveillance tape shows the riders were preventing him from getting away. sherry ly has the story. >> reporter: it is a typical night on metro as a crowd of passengers unloads from a red line train at the van ness station notice a man running toward the far end of the platform near the escalator after snatch an iphone from a rider's hands. metro surveillance cameras captured it all last month. another camera shows how fellow passengers react chasing the suspected thief. >> they caught the suspect and detained him until police arrived. >> reporter: the suspect was almost out of the station but the riders, about 10 people sore surround the suspect. he tries to make a break for it but they tackle the suspect to the ground.

the not what police recommend but the passengers' vigilance paid off. >> in this case, the citizens were responsive to what they saw but there is inherent risk when trying to apprehend or detain suspects. >> reporter: these kind of snatchings led to a spike in crime in the first months of the year on metro. they launched a sting to nab these kinds of robbers. last year, metro had 326 reports of electronic devices snatched. 44 of those cases were yuferred cover officers in which suspects were arrested just like this guy caught by fleet footed metro riders. this suspected they have didn't get the iphone but a trip to the slammer. metro says don't use your iphone or tablet right next to the train doors because it is too easy for someone to grab it and leave you trapped on the train. in this case, that is what

we've got showers moving through. you mentioned that they woke you up at one point. a few spots showers coming down at a pretty good rate. now, east of the city in southern maryland. we've got round three coming later today. >> oh, we've got more. >> you can see it stretching across 95 east. we'll get a bit of a break here for much of your morning hours. by early afternoon, the showers kind of reappear along our cold front as it will be a slow mover and not clear the area today. we'll be in for a cloudy day. temperatures will get a chance to warm up well into the 70s but showers will be back in the forecast this afternoon. 67 right now in washington. 65 the winning number out at dulles and b wait a minute marshall so a mild start to your day, lots of humidity in your forecast for the remainder of the wednesday with some showers returning by afternoon. high temperatures, mid-70s. >> lmplet thank you. we'll take it.

the beltway headed down towards beach and continuing out towards 410. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. our big story this morning, new information on the underwear bomb plot. we are learned that al-qaeda was duped by the cia and saudi intelligence in happening over a nearly undetectable bomb. >> this was a result of close cooperation both within the government but also abroad with security intelligence partners overseas. >> the same double agent gave information that led to sunday's drone strike that killed al-qaeda's chief in yemen and part of the ongoing focused on aqap. mitt romney sweeps last night's primary.

the presumptive govern nominee won the presidential primaries. none were a surprise as romney doesn't have any serious challengers for the republican nomination. voters in north carolina approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage as only a union between a man and woman. unofficial returns show the amendment passed with about 61% of the vote supporting the measure and 39% against it. the amendment also eliminates other domestic unions from carrying legal status. the biggest surprise from last night, long-time senator dick luther lost in indiana's primary. he was beaten by tea party favorite richard murdoch. senator luther has been a fix tour in the senate for nearly four decades. a fox 5 follow-up to a story from last week involving a man pretending to be a police

officer. a woman says the impersonator robbed her after pulling her over. now, that woman is speaking out about it. melanie alnwick has the latest. >> reporter: the victim in this case decided she wanted to speak to the media through a translator because she is concerned that the suspect is still out there and may try to strike again. she was able to give a pretty good description of the suspect to the police and they came up way composite drawing. he is described as a black male about 26 or 27 years old, 5' 10", 190 pounds with short, curly hair and tattoos on both arms. the victim says he got her attention last wednesday morning when she was on avenel road in silver spring on her way to st. camilla's church. >> a black man was blowing the horn. >> reporter: she says the man motioned out of his window and pulled his car up next to her. >> he yelled at me that he was a police officer and had to

stop. >> reporter: she says the man even show her a badge and demanded her license and registration and ordered her out of the car and told her to sit on the walk which she did. >> he opened the door and he grabbed the purse and cell phone. >> reporter: the man then fled in the small compact car with blue maryland tags that may have been bay tags. >> he got in the car and he left very fast. i tried to follow him and i was screaming and yelling and hoping that somebody will hear me to help me out. >> reporter: no one was around. she had no cell phone so she couldn't call 911 so she kept driving until she saw a mail carrier who called police for her. montgomery county police would like to hear from anyone who knows this man. in addition, police say that the suspect was wearing a black

baseball hat that had a police badge emblem embroidered on it. and black cargo pants and black boots. if anyone sees anybody muching that description, you are asked to call montgomery county police. fairfax county police now say the woman charged in a woman's death did not intend to run the victim over. investigators believe gloria mcmillan and shalinda exchanged some words. they say arrington got out of her car and approached mcmillan's suv. mcmillan then drove off and ran over arrington police say accidentally. >> the cost of the college education a topic of hot debate on capitol hill. will student loan rates double this summer or will lawmakers step in. >> we are checking more headlines coming up next.

the race is set for the governor's recall election in wisconsin. milwaukee mayor tom barrett won the democratic primary and governor scott walk are easily defeated his republican opposition. that sets up a june 5th rematch of the 2010 governor's race. democrats gathered enough signatures to put walker back on the ballot after he backed a move to strip most state workers of their collective bargaining rights. senate republicans blockade bill to keep student loan interest rates low for one more clear. the interest rate for new subsidized loans is currently at 3.4%. it is set to trouble in july. senate republican says they favor keeping the loan rate low but they don't agree with democrats on how to pay back the $6 billion needed. a major move in israel that could change the course of palestinians and possibly iran. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, his new coalition

could be a step forward to peace with palestinians. he formed a partnership with his political opposition. another three months before we see george zimmerman in court again. the florida man charged with murder in the death of have atron martin waived his appearance yesterday. he is out of jail on bond right now. his lawyers say some of the money zimmerman raised on a web site is being used to pay for security and living expenses before his trial. a huge fight for lamont peterson might not happen. >> why the bout is now in jeopardy. lots of clouds, lots of humidity. we've got a great-looking forecast. i'll have all the details on

well, i mentioned that the front is a slow mover and we've got this last piece of energy off to the south and west. you kind of see it there down in tennessee and kentucky. that has got to roll through here. we'll see the showers return this afternoon along with some relatively mild temperatures. we should be in the mid-70s today. that cooler air won't get in here until tonight when the winds will start to pick up and dry out the atmosphere. right now, we are nice and mild. 67 in washington. 70 in quantico. 64 out at dulles and manassas and we are expecting highs in the mid-70s. so another relatively comfortable afternoon. upper 70s here in d.c. 77 the official high temperature. mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers, maybe a thunderstorm, best chance for that will be this afternoon. the showers will continue early this evening and then late tonight, we should start to clear out and the wind will start to pick up. 58 the overnight low. less humidity, a good breeze out of the north and west and a beautiful day there by afternoon. 71 tomorrow. friday and saturday look

the atf is offering up to $5,000 a ward for information following a fire that injured firefighters. it happened back in february and was ruled arson development firefighters suffered critical injuries. d.c. police say they haven't gotten a raise in five years. the union believes the reason they have been unable to win any traction in its negotiation for a meaningful raise is a clause in the chief's contract allowing chief lanier to directly bargain with the union over compensation. >> so they are suing, arguing that chief lanier shouldn't be involved in the process anyway now that her contract has

expired. as fox's paul wagner explains, the city says the chief's contract has another year to go. >> reporter: the union representing d.c.'s rank and file says in its lawsuit against the city that it is highly unusual for a department head to be directly involved in negotiations over compensation. but chief lanier, the union says, has had that authority since she signed her first contract five years ago and has been nothing more than an obstructionist ever since. >> listen. it has been five years. there have been no raises or cost of living adjustments for officers. lanier has increased her compensation by 35%. we node her out of this process. the contract is expired so scherr exemption from being removed from that law is over now and she needs to move out of the process so we have a chance at actually getting compensation for police officers. what chris baumann is referring to is a law passed by former mayor tony williams which allows the chief of police to have management approval over working conditions but leaves it is raises to the office of

labor relations and collective bargaining but chief lanier told us an e-mail i do not participate in the negotiations directly anyway and there has been no discussion around compensation yet and that will be handled by olrcb or the office of labor relations and collective bargaining. and she says, the chairman, meaning baumann, knows this as he does participate. after looking over the lawsuit and the law from 2005, city councilmember mary cheh says she understand the up's frustration. >> not to get a raise for five years, though i would say the economic circumstances, that is not that unusual. in terms of filing a lawsuit, a lot of times when people are unhappy, they true to enlist courts and use the lawsuit to make things go forward. you am not surprised by the action. i don't know whether it has any merit but i understand they are trying to move the ball. >> reporter: phil mendelsohn
